About Us
Backcountry Experts
Canada Backcountry is an Avalanche Canada training partner and our founder is a certified Canadian Backcountry Snowmobile Lead Guide.
We have developed custom curriculum and received exceptional feedback from clients such as Avalanche Canada field team members, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Indigenous owned Natural Resources companies, and Search and Rescue field teams. We take pride in providing valuable safety and mobility training that is suited to our clients’ unique applications.
Our founder Alex Ibbotson has a Master of Arts in Leadership and published a thesis with a focus on inclusion and diversity in the avalanche industry. Alex’s academic background allows us to incorporate leadership and teamwork components into all training events. Her passion for removing barriers for under represented groups to experience the mountains is driven by the goal to deconstruct the exclusive culture of outdoor groups and encourage all people to thrive on the land.
With our industrial, environmental and natural resources clients, we aim to inspire an elevated safety culture, integrating safe work practices into organizational operations and resulting in less workplace incidents.
